Besides familiar Manga/Anima character archetypes and plot elements (recalling what last year's Pacific Rim did), the movie also features a setting that is a literal East-meets-West blend - a city known as San Fransokyo, which mashes together the architecture and culture of San Francisco and Tokyo, naturally. That said, the Big Hero 6 movie instead contains other elements that pay respect to the original comic property's Japanese influences.
By comparison, the source comic is a more pronounced hybrid of Eastern and Western graphic novel illustration styles. The Big Hero 6 teaser poster has clearly (and cleverly) been modeled to resemble the design commonly used for Japanese comic books judging by the initial trailer footage, though, the actual film is aesthetically closer to past Disney animated takes on the sci-fi genre ( Meet the Robinsons) and geek culture ( Wreck-It Ralph), rather than being an imitation (of sorts) of Japanese Anime techniques.
